Pump making new noise.
« on: April 30, 2019, 12:37:08 PM »
Don't know much about pumps (this one is a Chinese Tam105 50Lpm copy bought from jgs600 who used to post on here) but enough to think a new noise is not a good thing. Still seems to be working OK but I think the writing is on the wall.

Anyone got a decent 2nd hand one in their collection they can live without or know where I can find a replacement at a reasonable price?

This pump has been in the machine for 7 years - http://www.biopowered.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1076.15.html .

How long do you guys get out of your pumps?

It is most likely ball bearings on the way out not to
hard a job.

Take out the old bearngs and take them your local
bearing supplier for the size try to get fully
 sealed ones.

Last time I got some they cost me £2.25 each.

TBH I hadn't even considered it was something fixable.

So I'm guessing it'd be better to take this pump off & have a look before it fails.

If your TAM looky-likey is anything like a Leo pump, pay careful attention when reassembling … from what I remember, the position of the impeller on the shaft is quite critical as it has vey tight clearance with the casing.

There's info on dismantling the TAM 105 and Leo XKM 60 on the wiki which may be of help ...

I think the problems with logging in still prevail and some pages bring up errors, but many can be accessed OK for viewing.

The two to which I linked worked OK for me at the time of posting.

Just a thought on the pump noise … if the impeller has shifted on the shaft, it could be rubbing on the casing which would produce a noise not dissimilar to a duff bearing.

Oh, not sure what's going on there then … the links work OK for me tonight.

Can you see the wiki home page via the link top left of this page and then open other pages from there?

I didn't realise it was that bad for some people.

If I had the faintest idea of how to fix it I'd have had a crack long ago.

Of the admins it's only Tony with sufficient grey matter to sort it out.

I think Tony has to much on his plate at the moment
to sort out the wiki.
