Photobucket photo hosting
« on: July 02, 2017, 12:32:52 PM »

I've just come across this on another forum ...

Photobucket have changed their terms & conditions. They will no longer allow free 3rd party hosting and now want you to pay $400 every year for 3rd partly hosting

It seems that in the near future, pics uploaded to photobucket then links posted to a forum are in breach of their terms & conditions and will diplay this....

I wonder how long before the other photo hosting sites do the same?

Can't say I'm surprised, it seems to be the way of things these day that big business want's to screw every last penny out of their customers.

Model seems to be to hook people in by offering free services and once people start relying on the service or it becomes indispensable charge exorbitant fees.

I've been looking at Fusion 360, a very good commercial standard 3D drawing package.  It's free to schools, startups and hobbiests but they won't say for how long it will be free. So you spend ages learning how to use it (with most of the of the teaching is done for them free by customers answering questions their forum) and then they'll suddenly state everyone has to pay the commercial rate of something like 5000 USD/year.

By the way ... didn't see you at the BBB this year!

Isn't that the same business model that drug dealers used to use?

I had intended to come over for the Saturday but despite only changing the filter 1000 miles ago, I had blocked fuel filter symptoms during my run up here on Friday afternoon.

Motor factors don't seem to stock anything these days and could only 'get you one for Monday sir'.

After fighting with dodgy 4g connections, I eventually found one in stock in Chelmsford early afternoon on Saturday but I had written the BBB off by then.

I must find a cheap supplier for VAG SDI filters, the cheapest I can find are over a tenner each and some places want £20+ !!

Why not fit an inexpensive pre filter before the vag one. Arnt the landy ones supposed to be a couple of quid each.

Last I bought them from Paddocks they were £2.50 each.

Keith, there's a Land Rover filter housing complete with banjo connections here for you.

Good idea Nige.

Thanks Julian, I'll have a look under the bonnet to see what room there is and get back to you.

Im not sure the £2.50 filters are good for heated systems though.  Ive heard (but have no personal experience) that they fall apart at elevated temps.

There's a landrover part number for the (visually identical - apart from the print) ones that were used on the "winter pack" setups (which had heated heads) which are thermally stable.

Theyre more money, and you probably need to mail order them, but we're still talking under £6 a unit.

Ill see if i cant find the part number.

I've made a heated section between the filter and mounting  ....  http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/Heated_fuel_filter

It regularly runs at 65°C and have never had a problem with the standard filters.

I've now heard of a couple of photobucket work arounds if anyone is having problems

1] you can edit your post and add ~original to the photobucket url and it should fix it

2] you can right click the broken links and select 'open in new tab' to view the pics

The latter doesn't work if you use an ad blocker ... you just get a message from photobucket saying ...

Quote
It appears that you are using an ad blocker that prevents display of images

Which I don't think is true as they block adverts, not images and other sites work perfectly well ... how stupid do they think people are?

All this would appear to be a desperate, ill conceived and rather amateurish attempt to generate additional revenue which will undoubtedly have the opposite effect.

It's a good job the wiki holds its own images.
